  • My Father who is heaven I just want to thank you for using me and answering my prayers last night.  After LG I dropped by 1020 Clark Cr. to see what all the sweet action was all about.  Cool to see part of the fellowship there.  When I say part, you think of a reason why I would say that and if you would like to know, talk to me.  Well, it was pretty chill, I got to serve oranges to some people, woohoo, woot woot.  However, there was a greater calling to that very night.  My buddy Alex To and had this plan to let people know who this JC we know was and is.  That means just as JC did, go to the tax collectors and prostitutes, which is exactly what He did.  So thats just what we did.  We got The Tangster to join us too, which was awesome.  The devil was trying to prevent us from going telling us, stay here and just have fun and “hang out with all the people WHO ARE ALREADY CHRISTIANS”  It was hard to leave because we were having fun, which is exactly what the devil wanted us to do which was brought to Alex’s attention.  The devil knew our plot to EV to people who don’t know JC.  So we were like, dude we just gotta go, before you know it our chance will be gone so we were like, just go go go.  So we left our comfortablity to go to a party where people dont drink Martinellis, they be drinking your sky vodka, downing 40′s and just going crazy.

Well, when the three of us arrived we were welcomed by the dude who lived there.  So we came in kicked back with some people and tried to work our way in to where the Holy Spirit was leading us.  We had a mission and that mission was not going to be easy.  There were so many people filling there lives with things and substances to just satisfy them for a brief moment in life which would soon come to pass to be nothing.  Pure emptiness, in our hearts we knew that there were some people dying for someting more from life, something that gave them meaning and purpose.  You know they just want to believe in JC but are in total deniial of Him.  You know they wanted something that didn’t leave them feeling empty at the end of the night or when they woke up in the morning.  The Lord was really challenging us to really trust in Him.  Just as Shawn spoke at LG of how we always try to think of what we should say and not say when we are trying to share JC with other people.  Don’t think…listen!  I tell you that is all it takes sometimes.

As the night progressively got later we had been there for about two hours hanging and talking to random people we have never met or people we may have seen around campus and what not.  As it was getting late, I was getting bored and restless due to no door opening up to share the gospel with someone or some people.  So I sat there on a couch and began to pray.  A few minutes later after I prayed that God would give me an opportunity to shine some light into the darkness, a young lady sat near me on the couch.  So, as I was just about to introduce myself, my housemate Alex introduced me to Melanie because he met her previously that night.  There was something about this conversation and where it was going.  At the beginning, I was just like o, just someone to talk to.  The light bulb didn’t come on from God till later on…guess Im slow like that, but any how….I started talking to her and I asked all the you know questions about like where you from, what year you are and what not, u get the picture.  As the convesation progressed, she asked me if I drank, and I was like “no I do not drink at all” and so I decided to throw the question back at her, and so she responded with welll….not that much, occassionally.  I could just tell from her response that she wasn’t really into the whole drinking scene.  This was even before I got the chance to talk to her about anything or why I was there.  To make a long story short, I asked her where she lived and she said Seqouia and I was O hey, I have a friend who lives there, Justin (aka Juke Box) and she was like Justin who is in that Christian frat?  I was like ya, AGO and I was like woah this is cool.  Thank you Lord!  She asked me how I know Justin and I said he was a good friend of mine and we go to Inter Varsity together and she was like you go to IV, I have heard of that.  I was like ya, and she was like I have some friends I know that go to IV.  I was like hey thats cool.  So I gave a little bit about what IV was about and what not.  I also got to talkign with her about what major she was and what she wanted to do after she graduated because she is a 4th year.  She asked me the same question except in a more straight foward kind of manner which I thought was strange.  I was like hmmmm, she asked me what do you really want to do when you graduate.  I was like to be honest I would want to go where God leads me if it maybe to another country on earth then I want to go and she was like wow, and why.  I was like, dude, this is awesome, haha.  I was because I want to share what I believe in to people who do not know and who have never heard who JESUS CHRIST IS.  She seems curious.  Finally, I cut to the chase, do you know why I am here I asked her?  I just wanted to be real, even thought it sounds scary, I wanted to be legit.  I was like I am here to share the Gospel of JC to people here.  She was like, this is not the place to be and I was like, well this is the place to be.  I want to share something I have and believe in with people who don’t know or understand who He is.  Well, there are some parts I left out but the situation and experience was real.  The Lord provides a door when you call upon Him again and again.  I was just amazed because I was about to bounce up out of there right before I met Melody.  Sweet action is all I have to say.  Thank you God, I hope to follow up on this at sequoia to talk to her since she was like drop on by to say hello sometimes, I was like, fosho.

  • Friends…

I would like to share a little scripture with you all from Matthew 6:5-13

“And now about prayer.  When you pray, don’t be like the hyprocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I assure you, that is all the reward they will ever get.  But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to you Father secretly.  Then you Father, who knows all secrets, will reward you.  When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do.  They think their prayers are answered only by repeating their words again and again.  Don’t be like them, because your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!  Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored.  May you Kindom come soon.  May you will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven.  Give us our food for today, and forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.  And don’t let us yield to tempation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

Such words I find so powerful and compelling.  Urbana folks know whats up but the most interesting part of that prayer is You Kingdom come you will be done as earth as it is in heaven.  I have yet more to learn in my faith with Jesus Christ but I truly did not understand the meaning of Your Kingdom come your will be done as earth as it is in heaven until Urbana came along.  All my life I have heard that from pastors, my father, adult leaders and from the word of God myself but I always listened and looked at it passively in my life.  If you look at “your kingdom come your will be done as earth as it is in heaven” it seems pretty self explanitory from a Christian’s perspective.  I came to a revelation in my own walk that God’s kingdom is now, not tommmorrow not when I get a job and settle down and become all secure but it is now.  Let His kingdom come and His will be done, in your lives today – Lisa Chinn.

You may ask, how do you not understand that, well its simple for me, I have no idea.  The Lord works in crazy ways and I finally understand that truly for the first time in my life.  The Havest is plenty and the workers are few.  God’s Kingdom is here just as it is in heaven.  We are His kingdom builders He has called upon.  Lets embark on this journey of faith together.  We are a family, the body of Christ.  Thats right, one huge family.  Let us pray for and encourage one another and challege ourselves to get passed all those surface conversations and dig deeper into the lives of people.

“He lives in Me…only 7 days ago, I let go, all my life, yes, I give it all, I let go, of all I used to do and give it all away.  You want to know the differences btw. us….you got to know the one who lives in me…”  – Kutless

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!  2004 WOOT WOOT. Another year to extend God’s Kingdom.  The Harvest is plentiful but the workers are few…step it up IV.  We gotta allow God in every aspect of our lives which includes school and our campus by default.  No doubt about that.

Well, well, well…tis been a while since I made a log entry into my xanga.  This past year has been absolutely stupendous.  If I had the time to list everything God has done this past quarter and year the list would probably go on for a while, maybe forever.  I hope everyones breaks have gone well.  My Christmas was so awesome.  Family, friends and a lot of little rascals were chillin at my house this year for Christmas.  It was a blast about 30 of us, wowzers.  I had a lot of fun with the crackhead kids which is what I like to call them cuz they are so crazy and funny.  However, this year I locked my bedroom door so they couldn’t go in.  Due to last years incident I avoided have having history repeat itself.  Many of my cousins asked where my room was and I just told them Stephen doesn’t a room, he sleeps with the dog outside.  And they believed me, ahhahahah….haha…ahhhhhhhh kids, so funny.  Other than that it was just a grand time with family and the most exciting part was the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  Sweetness.  This year my parents bought me some colone which is kind of funny.  They were like, it might be of some good use, chuckle chuckle hah.  All fun and games though.  Enough said and done about that.

A day after Christmas I was packing for Urbana…how exciting.  I have never been to Chicago, Illinois so I was stoked alone with some uncertainty as to what God had intended for me to hear and respond to.  I flew out from the Oakland Airport at 6:30am for Chicago Midway Airport.  O, and Greg Ng was there my other brother, hahaha…j/k, we have the same last name and so does Kat Ng from IV too, funny stuff.  Anyways, I was all prepared for this trip, got my warm clothes and what not but when I got there there was no snow and it wasn’t even that cold.  I was like, man this feels just like Sac town or a cold day in Davis.  Shoot, I like over packed then; from what people were telling me about Chicago, they told me you’re gonna be a poscile when you get there.  So I listened and packed as if I was going to like Antarctica or something…hecka wack.  But I didn’t see any penguins there though, hahaha.  My Urbana Team from Sun Grove consisted about 14 people including the leaders and they were: Nancy & Randal, Derek, Emily, Nick, Jenny, Jennifer, Johnathan, Josh, Evangelene, Ted, Mike, Tim and Myself.  What an awesome experience and I loved spending everyone moment with them there.

I also got to hang and chillin with my Davis peps at Urbana too.  Pure sweetness, and there were a lot of them may I mention.  Juke Box and Greg were also in the same dorm building as I was by conincident, wow.  Mike Benson was my roommate alone with this hecka awesome dude by the name of John but everyone calls Him Juan.  He is from the Navajo Indian Nation and New Mexico area.  He was hecka cool to get to know, had some cool converstaions with Him and may I add He is a good guitar player too.  Great times of worship as well.  I wish I had more time to get to know him other than just the 5 days we were there.  Mike, thanks for being my roommate at Urbana, it has allowed me to get to know you better and I am glad it was intended to be that way by God’s will.

I also decided to be a small group leader at Urbana and I tell you the experience was awesome and it stretched me and taught me some new things.  I learned better how to facilitate and shepard a bible study and I was better able to trust in the Holy Spirit to guide me when I didn’t feel prepared.  My small group was pretty tight, I enjoyed it a lot and the blessings with the choice to serve in this small manner was definately worth it.  I too wish I had more time to get to know my group better.  The first small group was tight but I think it was very awkward cuz no one really knew each other so it made it hard to talk and interact the first day but it wasn’t bad.  It got better progressively.  Here is were you develop and establish new relationships with other fellow christians who are from all over the country and sometimes from around the world.

I also got to go to many seminars and I visited many exibits as well.  I dont’ want to type everything I saw or liked but one thing I will mention is…the one seminar that I went to allowed me to better understand missions and reaching out to others (particulary of the Hindu) religion.  The seminar that I attended was Reaching out to Hindu’s on Campus.  it wasn’t that long but it broadened my perspective of where they are coming from and building relationships and friendship rather than just reaching out to them just to witness to them, that doesnt help, cuz then it really doesnt come from the heart and doesn’t really demonstrate that you care cuz the motive is just to witness to them.  Its pretty common and straitghtfoward interms of it should be that way for everyone we talk to in our lives.  Sometimes, I have found myself to wanna know someone because I want to witness to them but then do I really care for them and want to be there friend, there is a difference.  Awesome stuff though.  O, I also got some cool book I want to read but I hope I can find time to read them this quarter.

Ok, I think I’ll leave it here for now, cuz  I am tired of typing so much and there is just too much to tell and I can’t gather enough word to describe the Urbana experience.  Sitll thinking of one word that can describe Urbana, if you got one, let me know…I’ll be thinking of one………………………………………………………………………………………….
