Boy did this weekend go by super fast. I had a great time at Spring Retreat and I learned a lot about myself and about how blessed we really are. Friday night started out ok, and I say ok because I came in pretty tired after the drive up to Diamond Arrow but Saturday Phil spoke on recieving and it really struck me about the way I am. I find it easy for me to give (whether its time, money, energy or whatever it is) easier than to recieve; I have a really hard time recieving for some reason and in some senses I can block many of God’s blessings He has for me. Im still learning how to recieve but Im moving along slowly. I have been pretty passionate about racial rec. issues especially through IVCF and I was encouraged more after this weekend with greater depth into this very complicated issue that is arounds us everywhere we go, whether you realize it or not. God has been placing many things on my heart lately and I feel more and more as if He is pressing me onto something challenging, uncharted and that will change me and grow me beyond my own belief. If you were to ask me 2 years ago about whether I thought ethnic specific groups were necessary in Intervarsity and I would of prob said yes but with a notion of that I don’t see why its necessary. FOLKS, ITS VERY NECESSARY. If you think otherwise, talk to me and Ill be glad to tell you why. Anyways, I have had this pressed against my heart for sometime now and its to bring back GAAP (God’s Asian American People) back. If you don’t think this is necessary either, come tell me why (you better have a convincing reason). I feel more strongly about this on each passing day now but I feel alone in this but I was talking to Justin today and He and a few other significant people are on the same page with me and see what I see. I know this will be very difficult but I remember someone said that if you don’t have conflict something is wrong with the relationship. In IV, you will have conflict, you will be challenged to be cross culture, but you know what, IT WORTH IT. It is so worth getting to know someone who doesn’t act, speak, think or look similar to you. Its a tough issue and thats why we have JESUS to help us through the RUBBLE as Phil said. Through Jesus, will we only be able to be reconciled by our differences.
I feel God wants to take my life experiences and use it for this ministry. Unlike many Asian American students here at UCD, I have had the priveledge to of been raised in a predominately white society/community. All my friends but a few asians are all white. With my experiences I have an understanding of two different cultures and I intend to understand as many cutures as I can.
p.s. – one thing I do want to leave with you is never ASSUME because it makes an ASS out of U and ME. Get it. Got it. Good!!!!!
On woot woot note: Ultimate Frisbee was off the hook but softball/baseball was even better. I brought my glove to play catch with some people at the restreat and boy do I miss playing baseball. Felt so good to through a ball around and catch it in my glove. The last time I threw a baseball was when I played in high school. Totally GT. Softball was fun too, I tried hitting everything at the people who were playing in the basketball courts but it was too far, too bad I couldn’t hit anyone, ahhaha….j/p.
Thanks everyone for being a blessing in my life!
