Efficiency Theory
Pictures speak louder than words. Stole this from Jeeves
OH DANG!!!

The only way to describe how I feel after work! ha haSo lately I’ve been thinking about random images I’ve seen or have
thought about and this was the image I first thought about after work!
I could of avoided this post and allowed the photo to speak for
itself! I’ve been working at my parents business for the past
month since I’ve
been home from school and I honestly would hardly of imagined I would
really apply any of my economics to my working environment. You
know the idea about labor supply and how too much of it is actually a
bad thing. Well, yeah that and add stupid workers to that makes
things run even more inefficiently! I was so irritated at work
today it’s not even funny! I felt like exploding at the end of
the day hahaha! Its been 110 degrees here in Sacramento and for
some reason today was just one of those days where clients were very
impatient, not understanding and demanding! There was one client
who came in looking for a missing item we had and I was unaware of it
and I was assisting another customer on the phone while taking this
guys order. Before I could do anything he asks for his stuff
before I could even have a chance to go and grab it. His wife on
the other hand was very understanding and put the dude in his place
because I was preoccupied! Ever just have one of those days where
you get irritated when you see people or workers doing their job and
you know it could be done a lot faster and a lot more
efficiently? It’s no wonder why so many companies or business create bad reputations
for themselves because of poor micro or macro management!
Inefficient workers, poor working environments or many other factors
that aid in inefficiency! One might argue with me but I’d say
inefficiency and poor use of labor and capital are some key problematic
areas for many economies, business or firms; especially on a large
cooperate or franchise level! How do you monitor quality and make
sure people are doing their jobs effectively! Answer: It’s
probably near impossible! How many times do you hear people
cheating the system, putting in more hours than they worked that week
at the state? How many people only do their job when there
supervisor/boss is around? Is this any real way to glorify the
one who created us to glorify Him? I see how people manipulate
the systems of work places and I ask myself are we not called to the
issue of integrity? Well, the quest for things to be done more efficiently is always the
name of the game in this world we live in! Guess its a part of
the working world or life in general!Whelp the search for my
niche in this world continues…where will the road of life take you? I
don’t believe the road ever ends, at least not with Jesus!
It’s hard to see what lies ahead but I know I am a man of little
faith and I need Him for guidance!

hahahahahaha
wow. i just learned that like 3 chapters ago! increase in laborors = decrease in productivity.. hope tomorrows a better day = ]
Cool picture!
ya birthday is coming up !
hihi
i wanna ask how you can take the pic posted on your entry on 19 July?
seems like the scale of the photo is not 2:3
are you using any special lens or so?
cheers
Yeah, good stuff, Steve. I just had to jump at this entry so forgive me in advance.
The reason I have trouble delegating and being a team player is because people will be inefficient. But it’s slowly getting through my thick skull that inefficiency on a large scale is better than efficiency on a small scale, when you are aiming for total output. (Corollary: Unless everyone is a freakin’ bum.)
I can only produce N when I am efficient, and someone else doing the job may only be able to do 0.75*N, but assuming that we scale perfectly (which we don’t, but we’ll assume that for illustrative purposes), by working together we’ll produce 1.75*N.
Moreover, being a worker drone is about additive efforts, while being in management is about being multiplicative (and some may say “manipulative” but I digress). If you can train 5 people to each be three-fourths as efficient as you are, that’s 15/4 or =>3.75 times your effort. It still comes up short of that five-fold goal we’re after, but it’s still beyond what you can do on your own, which is keeping the multiplier at one.
This is probably way obvious to everyone but me, but it helps me to write it out as a reminder to myself. =p
In a world of uncertainty, it’s great that you have at least one thing to be certain about.
heard u starting getting into photography too! looking foward to seeing some great pics

Are you frustrated with work man? ehhe
What an interesting question! I attended a talk this afternoon that hits upon what you’re pondering. I’ve also wondered some of the same stuff myself. To me, the best method of keeping employees in line is to motivate them to keep themselves in line. I think the threat of punishment or constant monitoring is effective but will have undesirable side effects as well. Its like schoolkids, honestly work is not far from this mentality, students perform better when they have their own desire to excel. Throw in a bamboo rod and you’ll get results but how true is the quality of students desire? How can you guarantee that they won’t find other ways to perform ie. cheating?
The talk was about leadership and motivation. This must have been covered in one of your classes otherwise you can really just learn this in life experiences. Find ways to reward workers for performing well. Make sure that the work they do is clear and of satisfaction to the worker. The thing is.. you pulled God into this discussion, which is good. Because drawing from passages, you can see the Lords way in what I just described. Give people the faith so they can be great believers, dont push them into faith by fear of punishment. Some are but in his plan, he always desires all to be self sustaining believers and that is how things should be. Motivate by love and desire, not by bruteness. >>howard
oh yes, happee bday! >>howard
