Arthur & Cindy
***photo splurg***
Well I finally finished post processing photos from Arthur and Cindy’s wedding in Nevada City,CA at Empire Mine State Park. I’ve never took so many photos in my life at one event. I shoot somewhere around 1,800 photos
! The Historical site is such a beautiful place. If anyone of you ever want to take a trip with me just to take photos here please let me know. Perhaps I’ll organize something where some of your photo guru’s and people who want portraits can go for a fun shoot! I will tell you the lighting there is incredible. It’s like no other place I’ve seen in terms of light distribution. Perfect lighting in my honest opinion. I had a blast at the wedding and the food was most excellent by Supper Club of Sacramento. If you need catering for a wedding or special event you wont be disappointed. I also used Gary Fong’s whale tale for many of the reception photos but I was using the amber gel tab which created a lot of warm images that I had to fix back to WB but no biggy. I still need to experiment with the diffuser a bit more before I start that comparison with the lightsphere II. The cool thing about this wedding was my close friends Ruth and Matt were the coordinators for the wedding. Well Ruth is the main coordinator and Matt(Ruth’s husband) is most supportive of Ruth throughout a long day. I tell you for a guy to keep up with his wife during a wedding is something to admire! Mad Props =) Ruth is a awesome at what she does and if you know anyone who needs a wedding coordinator drop me a line.
On another note, this weekend I also got to meet my second cousins from Korea. They are significantly older than I am but it was interesting meeting them. They have four kids of their own (all girls) but they do not live in the states. Being the first time I’ve met them, they are certainly kind people. My uncle is taking them golfing before they head back to Korea.
Misc. Rubbish…
So I want to begin shooting automotive professionally to feed my desire and passion for import tuner and exotic cars. What I need to know is what sorts of lighting equipment would be ideal without a high price. I have a light stand but thinking about external lighting for those urban shots in parking garages and what not. I’m pretty serious about adding this to my photography habits. A lot of automotive inspiration comes from a couple guys form my Skyline forum. OB Photo and a photography I know who shoots for JTuned. I still need to learn how to make a still car look like its moving 100mph! =)
So for you wedding photographers…how often do you change your lens during a wedding or do you have enough backup cameras that you don’t even have to really change. I know it depends on what the photographer wants but I’m just curious! =) How many of you folks shoot primes at weddings? It’s possible but I don’t think anyone does unless the shot is setup! hahaha.
So I need some color management/calibrator. I was wondering what you guys thought about the Gretag Macbeth Eye One. Let me know if you guys have any recommendations or comments about the calibrator I listed.
So if you haven’t heard yet…I’m switching over to Mac in the near future and wanted some of your guys opinions on two Macs I am thinking about. So I know for sure I’m either getting the Macbook Pro 17″ or iMac 24″ I probably wont be getting it until the Fall because I’m waiting for Leopard OS to come out along with new processors that Macs will have this September/October. Comments welcomed! =)
p.s. – Yah, I know I said “so” four times! =) And in case you were wonder…I shot the wedding with only two lenses and I love rich color!
Stay tuned for photos of my friend Jackie

Thanks for reading!
Cheers,
Steve

V. nicely taken
What DSLR model do you use!
“sweet action” haha
1800?
oh dang!
that looks like a PITA wedding(or at least the reception) just because of the outdoors at night thing, how did you work with the lack of lighting ?
RYC: thanks for the comment, I like the tree because it s like a full blown giant bonsai tha tcould be in a cliff in the mountains by itself and it’d fill me of peace
vibrant pictures
Good stuff. eye-one display 2 is pretty easy to use and accurate. Used to use the X-rite stuff, lived and died by it but not the companies are combined or something?
I only shoot primes, don’t even use my trusty 70-200mm f/2.8L now [unless it's catholic wedding and I'm only allowed to move within a .5 ft radius]. Wife just got the 50mm f/1.2L [uses w/ 5D], she loves it. I use the 35mm L lens [w/ Mark IIN] primarily.
You took more photos in one session than i did on a trip for 14 days. I hope you charge by the photo! hahahaha
Nice shots – color saturation is rich.
I’m interested in the speed/aperture/model, but who’s got time to supply that info?
beautiful!
Hey Stephen! That is so funny that we both shot there!!! It is the most incredible place isnt it? I loved your pictures! Once the wedding started and we set out to get the pictures we wanted to get things happened that we didnt get to do that….I am soooo bummed so we missed that big reflecting pond and the arch with the roses and the walk way with the bird bath which we wanted to recreate from the engagement session. I could just have a pity party over it but I cant do anything about it now…but be happy with what we got.
Did you have a second shooter? That place is so spread out!
I used my 24mm primarily for the getting ready shots and the bridal party…then the70-200mm for the wedding on a tripod at the front, Mark used his 70-200. I am not sure what prime he used. Lindsay used the 75-300mm and Brian used the 100mm. No idea what Randy shot with but I think the 70-200mm was definitely his leading lens.
You really rocked those images!
Kerri
Beautiful shots!
WOW.Stephen Antony, your pictures now are as romantic and professional looking as your name!:goodjob:
omg, i really really really really love your shots here. love the compositions and candid shots. my fav is the one of the bride/groom doing towards that pool.
haha i get trigger happy too, the last wedding i was at i shot about 1300, and i was only the second photographer! o_O i love the shots here, the lighting is great! =]
nice shots!
love it. all of em!
btw, u didn’t respond. who is your man crush!
Gorgeous shots! :sunny:
wow, im actually pretty surprised at how many of you guys shoot primes at weddings. yah i know its sharp but i can’t see myself moving back and forth for shots i want especially in crucial situations. im sure you all have mastered it. i probably wouldn’t shoot primes unless they were wide angle lens…like 24mm or lower. 35mm is a good focal length for probably a happy medium for reach. primes are definitely sharp as a tact and work well in low light so another incentive to be using primes! =)
great stuff! i like the variation in your composition and the color in your detail shots.
the venue is gorgeous. i’m down to go to nevada city!
Yes, I sometimes shoot with my 100mm macro prime and my 50mm f/1.4mm prime since it gets me top quality shots (sharpness and contrast in colors). Recently I’ve been spending more time shooting with my 12-24mm just to get more practice with my new wide angle.
green cake?!?!
WOW is really all I can say. :goodjob:
Nice job!
I used Canon 5D and 24-70mm 2.8L for all the shots…no primes used. With full frame, you can achieve pretty narrow DOF at f2.8.
nice pics man. looking good, looking good.
great shots! i really love that first shot of them dancing.
:goodjob: i LOVE that place! when i lied in sacramento we used to visit there some. now when i go visit my son in davis i’ll have to remember to go back there, it is beautiful.
:goodjob:your pictures are EXQUISITE!!!!!
:fun::p:fun::p:fun: please teach me how to take pictures like you!!!! :fun::p:fun::p:fun:
beautiful. i like how they danced outdoors in the night. one of my dreams is to do that :fun: love the variety of green in your photos. the line up and contrast between the bridesmaid’s bouquets and the red flowers in the background in picture #6. good job & thanks for sharing :goodjob:
hey thanks man, if you wanna check out the photos from the redbull illume, check out their site! redbull illume. it’s basically all of the same photos as at the exhibit
woohoo! awesome looking pictures!
i always appreciate your pictures.
mad props to you!
these photos look AMAAZING!!! :sunny:
beautiful detail shots! love em all
great work steve! macs are awesome… yet expensive. good choices. hope you’re well.
i love that pic of the kids. great composition. u truly captured the moment. do u have a list of ur equipment?
niiice. clean and fresh.
Ooo I like the first one, and the fourth one,..and i lost count hahah. the one with the wine glasses …and ..and. yeah good job! =)
nice pics! hee hee, i keep telling you you’re talented!
1800+ photos?! you definately need to come out for my birthday and be my personal photographer… 8.17.2007.. mark your calendar
STEVE THESE ARE AMAZING!!! now i really really really wanna shoot with you
you’re really gifted for your profession =)
great shots of the wedding day steven.
for lighting, try alien bee. they also make soft boxes to go w/ their lights. this was on my list, but my situation doesn’t required me to use them as much. if i had to light up a parking garage, this would be an economical choice. then you would need something like a pocket wizard or a microsynch to help trigger it.
as for lenses, i go through about 4 lenses (3 zoom, 1 prime) at a wedding on two camera body.
i’m also waiting on the newer mac pro to come out. i’ll save up for it at the end of the year along with two more prime lens.
the EyeOne2 is good. i like it b/c it’s easy to use. it have an advanced and easy mode. i just use the easy mode and about three clicks later, i’m done.
sorry for mispelling your name.
that’s why i never put names in my posts. guess first time for everything.
i lived in folsom for 5 years then i moved to altanta. i am from the south so i was glad to get back here LOL but i miss california ande the weather. ny son is the oldest of three and he was 18 when i moved back east. he decided to stay there for college since all of his friend’s are there and his girlfriend. i go visit a lot!!! all of his friend’s go to UCD but he actually goes to Sac State but lives in Davis. UCD doesn’t have a business department sohe had to move over to CSUS for those classes. he works at the state capitol for roger niello and will work for the governor next year doing internships. he’s really into politics.
:p now, i’m still wanting you to teach me how to take pictures like you!!! LOL no, i’m really not kidding!
hey steve, i really like the details shots! looks like it was a very elegant wedding…i’d imagine the 17″ macbook pro would suit you well if you’re on the go a lot. i love the image quality on both machines, though! these days, i go to the mall only to hang out at the apple store
:goodjob:
what were those notes hanging on clothespins?
nice shot of the ringbearer!
hehe
verrrry nice! i’ll book you in about 5 years for my wedding ? is that ok? hehe -VT

hahahaha… nothing feels greater than being complimented by a professional =)
Thnx, and enjoy life !!!
steve, you did an awesome job at this wedding. i’m really proud of you!! keep up the good work!
:goodjob: Mr. “S”
Your wedding images are beautiful! I just shot there for the very first time with the Lydells this past Sunday 6-10, even with five of us shooting we still missed getting certain shots. The place is so big and spread out that you only have so much time then you’re off to the reception area. Check my blog, I have a few images up, more later after the Lydells post theres.
Do you think the Wail Tail is that much better than his old Fong Dong as we call it? Let me know.
Randy
Heuy’s are pretty nice. As far as camera bodies and such, i’d highly recomend to use 2 digital bodies. one wide and one tele. Primes for me should only be used before or during a photo session when you have control over everything. How you doing steve? ii got a new sn btw. It’s davidlestudios. So IM me up man.
Intervarsity, huh? Small world.
Stephen….thanks for the comment on the ad!
Oh I just love these!!!!
K
ur shots are stunning!!!
100!
yes bok? does that “…” mean u have nothing to say.
oh my steven, these are awesome!!! and it’s so much more comfortable when you actually know people from the wedding ie: the coordinators.
as far as auto photog goes, i know a guy that used a wide angles alot as you may know. his name is chris (Chreeeeno) He using soome type of editing. his pics are amazing!
keep up the good work steven. you’re moving on up.
Wow excellent wedding photos, but you don’t need me to tell you that! Would you mind sharing what lenses you used, especially for the narrow deapth of field shots?
Stopped by randomly. Love the feel of your pictures. They’re very rich/saturated colors. Your processing work is really awesome! -J
