Friday: Went to my best friend Eric’s graduation.  Congrats buddy it’s hard to believe how far we’ve traveled this road together.  I’ve been best friends with this guy since I was five.  I still remember the day we met and eighteen years later we both ended up at the same college and are now both graduated.  Well I guess well just see who ends up married first haha.  A beautiful girl already nabbed our buddy Josh so that leaves the two of us haha.  Well just have to wait and see what happens.

Sunday: My sister left for Korea for the summer to study abroad.  I miss her a lot already and I can’t wait to hear her experiences and what she learned there.  I can’t wait to pick up on some more Korean from her. =)  I’m getting better but I still suck haha.  One of these days I’m going to go there and maybe I’ll met my wife there hahaha.  We dropped her off at SFO and while it was father’s day my parents and I spent the day visiting China town in SF.  I had some horrible dimsum but all good since I haven’t had that in a long time and got some Chinese baked goods too.  Visiting China Town is my poor attempt to be more Chinese hahaha.  Anyways, it was cool walking around and scoping out shops and snapping a few pics here and there.  While walking through down town SF there are so many great places I imagined to place a bride and groom; I think it wouldn’t be most appropriate but I still think it would make for an interesting photograph.

Jax:  Well there only one word to describe my close friend Jackie…Fiesty.  I had the priviledge of shooting a few shots of Jackie a few weeks back and she is such a beautiful person inside and out.  She is like no one else I know.  I don’t think I know another person who cares for all her friends like she does.  I am blessed to have her as a part of my life.  There was a lot for me to learn from this short shoot too.  I do know I like shoot down on people for portaits!  The lighting that day was way harsh if you can’t already tell.  I knew better but that was the only time of the day I could do the shoot and didn’t get to any places ideal where the light was diffused well.

    Extras:

So its official!  No, I don’t have a gf haha.  Still happily single (for now) hahaha.  I’M GOING TO PARIS & LONDON BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Yup, I’m attending Scott Robert’s and Kim Nodurft’s workshop in Paris.  I am extremely excited and I can’t wait to go.  The sweet part is I get to travel with one of my best friends aka the xanga celeberty….Junshien. =)  I’ve never been to Europe but theres a first for everything =)  Paris, here I come.

SFO International is a pretty sweet airport.  I happen to think the engieering is brillant and extremely efficent.  The airport is extremely efficent with using natural light to light the airport.  I also noticed they use large canvas materials to diffuse the light too so sunlight creates softer light.  The transit system and air rail are extremely well mapped out too.  The rail system is so easy to use and it would be really difficult for anyone to really confuse themselves as to where they need to go.  I also think the drop off zone is pretty sweet too.  Its right off the 101 and it gets you back on the freeway in seconds too.  It’s nicely designed and did I mention it was huge?  Yah it’s large!

    Thanks for reading.

    Cheers,

    Steve

  • :sunny: Steve:

Thanks for the great shots of Sf CT! I miss the Bay Area and all its great locations since moving to sacramento 6 years ago. Many years ago I had a Bride and groom run down Grant Street in CT towards me, I wish I still had that old neg to show you, it was spectacular with hundreds of tourists looking at them in the middle of the street and we stopped traffic too! Thank goodness no cops around at that moment in time! Ha!

Hey, have a great time and trip to Paris with Scott Robert Lim and the gang over there. That sure is going to be a life changing experience for you, can’t wait to see all the photos from everyone!!

    Later.

    Randy

  • i <3 how the graduation photos turned out!

  • Ten Ren!!! one of my favorite tea places :fun:

:goodjob: nice variety of photos.  i like the unique colors in the Sf photos. thanks for sharing. both of your friends look handsome/beautiful :coolman:

can’t wait to read your Paris experience :spinning:

  • Great shots.  The Paris workshop sounds like it’s going to be awesome!

  • Steve – some honest critque here – I dunno if the standard “Scott Robert” actions work in Chinatown. The high contrast and saturation seem out of place. I think desaturating here would give it a sense of ancientness that works! My two cents. :) :) :) :)

The grad photos are fantastic and your portrait work is strong as usual!

  • wooooooooooot!!! :goodjob:

  • nice job!!  the portraits are gorgeous.

i think between you and me, we covered a bit of San Francisco this weekend! (:

  • Stephen, I really like the look and feel of the shots in China Town. But c’mon is there such a thing as bad dimsom, especially in San Francisco’s China Town??? I bet you’re just spoiled. Hahahahahaha. Enjoy Europe man. I’m pretty jealous.

  • I especially like the shot looking down the row of graduates. Great work!

  • sweet photos man.

and paris??? awesome man!!! make the most of it!

  • I just love Chinatown! So colorful and full of history! We are headed to SF tomorrow and will most likely hit Chinatown for lunch and some picturetaking.

We (me and the kids) are heading to a photog workshop in SF tomorrow, so it is work and fun but really its all play since work is play for us!!! Esp when it is a roadtrip….

Mark is still working on all the images we have from our 3 weddings it really is time consuming when you have 4 shooters and even had a friend come along on one of them so that was 5!

RYC: thanks! I will pass along to Brian…

  • thanks steve. man your landscape shots came out really well. i love the tone of the colors… especially because it is chinatown… it really suits the scene well.

  • heh i like your chinatown pics. reminds me of the chinese new year photos i took at NYC a while back.

    woot for paris!

  • and i thought u liked shooting down on jackie jsut because she’s short. j/k! have fun in europe! sounds like an awesome opportunity.

  • Wow Steve, these shots are great! I love “Golden” very much. I love stuff like that because it is kind of a play on words. You see the word “GOLDEN” and you see the golden sun shining brightly just above it too. Very nice. And double WOW about Paris. That is so awesome!! What an amazing experience that is going to be for you. I hope to take a workshop from Scott in the future but I doubt I will be able to swing an international one. hahahaha! good for you though. I hope you have a fabulous time. take care!

  • Very nice.  I like your b&w style.

  • ryc: pretty good still need to get used to it

  • lol to eric’s picture. he’s beaming with joy!

  • why must all chinatowns looks the same!?

  • these are very awesome

  • The pics are great. Have a nice time in paris

  • RYC: thanks for the heads up. Yeah I need to work on my shots and poses.

  • How the hell did you make dirty ass SF chinatown look so good ? lol. I’ve been living in SF all my life, and still can’t see chinatown as a nice place to eat(saw cockroaches running around) or walk around(since its so damn crowded). Anyways, you did a hell of a job getting it to look good!!

I hope you have fun in Paris too!!

  • STEVE! I love looking at your pictures! I just got back from Italy so now I can read everyone’s xangas. Haha, but yeah, I especially like the Chinatown ones. It makes my heart flutter because of my Chinese-ness :) .

And cool! London and Paris? I want to go to England eventually. I went to paris before I hit Germany and Italy. Definitely have the pastries in Paris :)

  • I came here through Junshien’s blog, I hope you don’t mind that I subscribe to you!

  • Hey there!!! Thanks for your comment! I am ok, just that you also can see what’s problem I am having from my blog..hahaha….

Oh, you are going to London and Paris… great! Hope you can get something very great on photography from your trip! I will go Spain when at July, well, it’s poor that you will not be there, otherwise, we can go to have coffee and chit chatting…..

About your pic of China Town, I feel that you was using the “Gwai Lo”(it’s Cantonese….means Westerner) viewing to captured the scenes, so it gives the quite funny feeling for me this HK Chinese…..

  •  I almost missed this post…. CONGRADULATIONS on getting to go to Europe for Scott’s classes WOW!!!
Can’t wait to see those pictures. I really like what you captured in China Town, especially the line of red lanterns.
as for shooting down, yep that’s a good one to remember, very flattering for older, rounder models.

  • Hello Mr. Anthony,
I like your site that you worked hard to make more interesting than most. The pictures are a nice touch. I see that you have a lot of fans here!
I like to write articles about God and religion on my site to help people to really get to know God, especially in these troubled times: 14 “When the good news about the kingdom has been preached all over the world and told to all nations, the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14) (CEV (Luke 11:9-10) I hope you get a chance to look at them.
