Children are among the most difficult and easiest to photograph. That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense I know. I think children are some of the most difficult subjects to photograph because getting them to sit still or to look at the camera or pay attention to what you are doing is rather difficult. For most children, going to take pictures are always a bore and no fun at all. I remember as a boy my mom had to bribe me to take photos at a studio once in order to get me to smile. Photo shoots aren’t exactly the most exciting thing for kids but parents always want photographs of their children for memories and what not. Children are the easiest to photography because they don’t consciously care or worry about the camera. They basically act themselves as if the camera never exiists. For me this is the joyous part of photographing children. Sitting them down for a family shoot is a challenge but capturing them in life’s moments can seriously be priceless to me and most importantly…the parents. Nevertheless, kids are always fun so have fun too! =)
These are the boys of a close family friend of ours and they have grown up so fast since the last time I saw them. I still remember when Kevin (the oldest) was born and now he is six. I few things I did learn from the shoot. If you are photographing children out of a studio, remember location matters. At least I think so. Why? Because you need a place that will entertain or evoke the children to be themselves and most of all find a location where they can have FUN!!!!!! Notice the photographs taken were at a playground. A familiar place to do photo shoots but its ideal for children because it gives me a chance to photograph them as they are and while they are having fun playing with each other. If you take kids to a boring location your photography will exhibit the not so fun emotions of the children based on the location. As Scott said it…Light Light Light…for kids its that too but Location, Location, Location too! =) So if you take pictures of kids, pick a fun location!

Yes, I totally agree with you! They really are the most difficult and easiest to photograph!
I’m not sure if you are aware but your pictures seem to be getting cut off on one side. Must be the layout of your page?
One of these days they’ll be the next boy band!
cute pics…hahaha i was laughing at that one “ass shot”…i was thinking, steve u freaking perv! LOL
looks like the boys really enjoyed the location you chose! yes, you have to be fast on your feet, but when you can capture them just at that right moment, it’s oh so sweet!
i LOVE #2! the sepia tone compliments the picture really well. i was just telling my friend this the other day too, kids are the easiest because they’re comfortable in front of the camera but you can’t get them to stop moving! =)
yay good job on capturing a group of little boys pictures =) i think it’s even harder to take pictures of a group of kids cuz they tend to distract each other.
for some reason, all your photos are cut in half, maybe cuz how my screen resolution is setup.
btw, i really like the live.love.laugh motto
Maybe it’s just me then. My moniter is 17″. Did you check your public preview?
im using a 15″ monitor at work, screen resolution is 1024 x 768 pixles

I like the 6th one. The lighting is so good on that one.
Steve:
All really cute shots of these little guys. I think I see a Doctor, a Senator and maybe even a Judge in these kids…who knows? Ha!
I love shooting kids because they have nothing to hide and a most of the time ham it up for my lens. You did a great job with these!!!

Steve:
Nice pic! By the way, I have so much child´s pic when I was a kid. They looks quite nice, but I don´t know how my parents took it………. maybe it´s because of I was a good model from inborn!(kidding), or my parent was doing the same way for the kid´s pic as you do.
Why I love my mac? um…….cause I don´t know PC so well, so I have no choice to don´t love it.
It’s always a joy when I see pictures of kids and you captured their excitement perfectly!
When they get older and look back at these pictures, they’ll thank you and their parents!
I actally like the setting you chose rather than the standard typical photobooth place. You are right about choosing the right location for your subjects. The atmosphere can really help with ppl’s emotions!
Props to ya!
What cute boys! Yes taking them to a park is super fun for everyone! we did a shoot for a young couple and their daughter Rylee and we went to a park. She really lit up when we got to the playground part! Got some really cute ones of her there…
Ah selling your Rebel, eh? What are we moving up to??
Kerri
cute = ]
Kids can be so frustrating and rewarding at the same time. You did a great job in capturing the personalities of these boys. Nowadays, when I try to take a picture of my daughter (3 years old), she just says “cheese” and makes a fake smile – I have to be creative to draw out other expressions from her!
I probably just didn’t get enough sleep, but the kid in Pic #3 reminds me of… Junshien! =P
Mejico… not Seattle. :]
Friends+Xanga = Frangas
Frangas RULE!!! lol Hope we meet up with you someday!!
Kerri
Hey Steve! …Wow you must have been commenting on my site when I was commenting here! lol

Kerri

I just wanted to let you know I have a new blog that I am trying to have people stop by and comment on. I want to create a place where people can comment on the subject material, and hopefully, different people’s opinions can help open the point of views of others. I promise not to mention this again on your blog! I know this is shameless self-promotion, and I apologize ahead of time! Also, I always take the time to read/comment on people’s blogs who show me the same courtesy. Thanks!!
This week’s blog entry is about having the perfect person…on paper.
You can check it out at http://www.xanga.com/sabrine38
ryc 7/12: i don’t have any templates but i have a lot of ideas for a photography website… why? are you interested in having your own site?? well you know who to ask! me!! ^_~
ryc 7/15: yeah transformers is probably one of the best movies of the year for me. its that dang awesome! i’ll definately go watch it again.
i really love these pictures of those little boys. they’re so lucky. they look genuinely happy and you did a good job of capturing that. i remember my mom had her friend take pictures of me when i was little and i really cherish them. me and my pink ball and red shoes… but thats another story….
Well you certainly did excellent work with these images.
those are stunningly beautiful photos.
mine were getting cut off yesterday too, so I had to make them a slide show.
Thanks for the awesome comment!!! We LOVED this couple and it was just a joy to photograph!
Now to catch up on the next two!

cute kids! i love taking photos of kids bc they act just so natural. =) love the fireworks.
hey steve, these are fantastic pics. you did a great job capturing the happiness of a trip to the playground. this was a fun post and i liked all your commentary.
i have an imac for my desktop and a 17″ macbook pro for going mobile. i love them both but can’t really list the reasons. they are just awesome. wonderful products. selling your rebel huh? upgrading to the 5d? i’m hoping to soon but will probably have to settle for a 30d for now and then eventually use it as a backup camera once i can afford the 5d. i’m currently using minolta/sony dslr cameras and can’t wait to make the move to canon. see ya!
seriously, i hated taking those studio shots as a kid. i dreaded them! but now i kinda miss taking them family photos heh.
They are soooooooooooo cute!!
Totally agree with you!!
I rather the normal pics, when they are just kids and they’re not posing!!
