  • Joyce Portrait Session

Hey everyone, I hope you all had a splendid Thanksgiving.  I spent Thanksgiving with my family and a family we are close to.  I learned how to snowboard and boy does that workout every inch of your body.  I had a blast even though I fell half of the time.  By the last few runs I was starting to get the hang of balancing on the board.  Friday, we spent the day at a hot spring/spa resort in Nevada, Reno.  That was awesome.  I have never tried it before but its actually really refreshing for the moment.  It was nice to get away from everything with just family and friends.  I like the fact I lost track of all I had been doing, thinking about and just enjoying the time spent with family and friends.  It felt so good to get lost in that instead of all the worries we have in our lives.  This weekend was such a humbling experience and more importantly it was awesome.

The photos above are a quick handful from a shoot I did about a month and half ago.  The shoot was quick but we had a lot of fun.  I hope you enjoy this set.  Portraiture is something I find really challenging and I hope to learn far more than I know and see now!

    Thanks for reading!

    Cheers,
    Steve

  • really like how her hair is kinda blowing around…makes it look really natural. sweet job.

  • Hi Steve,I think the last photos is the best, your model looks very natural and relaxed.
As for my phots from Zion, we were so fortunate to visit when the fall colors were going off. I was in photographer’s heaven for 3 days…I kept telling my husband “look at that light or color?” I kept running into other photgraphers and they all had the same gleefull look on their faces.

  • i just decided that you’re one of my favorite photographers on xanga. like.. top 3

  • hot springs! that’s something i’ve yet to experience. i knew i should have gone when i had the chance in taiwan. they had flavored springs!

  • haha i wish that was my car :P …. then again i don’t think i could afford the gas and insurance for it …

skylines pshh.. everyone and their dogs have skylines up here. before it was cool but now its just meh….. then again ones that have 10′s of thousands invested in them look pretty sweet :D

  • haha well thing is he has his Summer tires on :P hahaha so it wasn’t SUper fast drfiting around in the snow but that makes it more fun right? hahah!
its still super fun to ride in though  with the AWD its hard to get it to get the back end out but its still awesome :D and the people who come into parking lots just sit there  and watch us.

i think my camry can get through the snow better ;) woot winter tires for the win

p.s. saw your photos on pinkchick83′s xanga..you’re handsome!

  • you know what i was thinking?  you would do awesome taking pictures of my students.. they’re 6 years old, teethless and beautiful!

  • ryc: thanks for the recommendation man. one of my friends that im going with said he waited in the cold, outside, at 4am to eat at that place and it was totally worth it. we are definitely going to go there. haha

i like the last two of this series, nice stuff!

  • Hey Steve! Was on my way to pay you a visit tonight. Nice to see you! So are you going to make it to WPPI in March? You are doing such wonderful work… yeah portraiture is not so easy is it??!! lol

    Kerri

  • You’ve got portraiture skill, bro.  Wow…

    =Matt=

  • You have a good eye! Also, about the snowboarding thing. I got my own snowboard/boots for Christmas last year, and hadn’t previously gone before in my life. The darn thing is beautiful, but I was unable to stay balanced on it for more than a couple seconds. Literally. How sad. :(

  • ryc: Thanks so much.  Typing it and reading it helps me see how much God has done and revealed in my life.  Also to see his Grace and the miracles he has let me experience.  God is good.  I have been praying for you on that job as well.  Hope all is well.  God Bless you brother.

    -Ted.
