  • Crazy DOF

    50mm at f/2.8

    50mm at f/1.2

Canon 50mm f/1.2 is a freaking sweet lens but the DOF is pretty crazy.  You can see it in the photo of my aunts chawawa.  At 1.2 though you definitely got to be careful when taking portraits for sure.  The DOF is so narrow on this you could prob just focus on a person’s eye haha.  Definitely great in low lighting situations.  In AF mode when shooting against light or the sun its definitely struggles to focus.  Never the less its awesome optically.  I say its worth every pretty penny! =)

I’m finding it difficult to find time to blog now a days.  I still enjoy it as always but with the million and one things I am juggling it almost seems to end up on the back burner some days =(.  Thanks everyone for always tuning in to my blog here.  I know I have really slacked on replying and I’m going to be better at that.  Blog can be a full time job sometimes =)  and for some people thats how they make a living so I hear? hahah  Anyways, I’ll have some more photos from a few shoots I have been on and a couple engagments.  I’ll be in LA this weekend so hit me up if you want to hang!  =)  Until next time I will check you all later.  Have a superb weekend! =)

Anyone know a good third party wide angle zoom lens for a Canon 5D.  I have planned on a 16-35mm.  Or if you want to sell me yours hehe.  That indeed is a great lens but I’ve been curious about some of the other third party lens that are significantly cheaper and was thinking about comparing optical abilities compared to the Canon.  The only third party lens I have ever owned has been the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8.  That lens is freaking amazing for the price.  Optically its sharp, fast and built very well.  I’m going to try a Tokina lens next and will let you all know how that works out!  =)  Well see how if some of these can stand up to the “L” quality optically…I have doubts about third party lens being built as well as the “L” series from Canon.  But we all know it comes down to image quality.  Id say built quality would come second for me.  Anyways, just my two cents.  Feel free to chime in with your thoughts!  =)  Comments welcomed.

Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 FOR SALE…pm me for price

  • Of course we like to read your blog but it is understandable seeing how busy your are.  Maybe you should do like Scott says and job it out…ha ha ha.  Let me know if you find a good wide angle, I would love a 16-35mm but we all know those are some big $’s.  Have fun in LA.

  • Man Steve, the DOF is outstanding! Have you tried it with full frame like the 5D? I have the 85 1.4 and man i love it!!

  • f/1.2 sweet!!!

  • I would not mind having a decent wide angle zoom as well.  The widest I have is the 24-70mm, which really is not wide at all! A 16-35mm would be wicked.

  • Yo quiero Taco Bell.

  • eeyew! that chihuahua head and the ears. so E.T!

  • i think that 50mm sucks and you need to send it over to my house for proper disposal
LOL. jk of course. its killer. i have my eyes set on the 85!
16-35 is a great lens! i use it anytime im not doing portraits and find it perfection.

  • Wow, what a chihuahua.

  • The dog looks sad and hungry…

I like the picture of the kid :O>

  • Yo Steve!  I hear you on the bloggin.  Mine is so neglected.  A little thing called life keeps getting in the way.  But I have to say, I love reading everyone’s blog from the Paris trip.  It makes me feel like I’m still in touch.  I love the shots you put up.  That lens is awesome.  And as you increase your distance from subject, the depth of field won’t be such an issue.  But frankly, I love the short DOF.  Very cool.  I’m not crazy about 3rd party lens.  I’m sure some are very good.  I’ve just had my share of crapy ones.  But even if it’s almost as good, if it’s a lens you’re only going to pull out every so often, I’d go for it.  Who needs a $2,000 paper weight you’re only going to use 10 times a year.

  • I get to try the 85 1.2 this weekend and then I will decide which lense to buy.  I might really like both then what am I going to do.
