Misc photos from the shoot…hope you all enjoy these too…
The first three are my favorite but I can’t seem to pick which one I like more.  I like all three for all different reasons.

Quick update everyone.  I have some wedding photos I am finishing up for Elizabeth and Kevin and will be posting those hopefully by the end of this weekend.  I’m off to Belmont for a wedding tomorrow and then back home for a fashion shoot on Sunday afternoon.  I have tons of work to do but here is a shoot I did with Christina of her friend CJ a while back.  All photos were taken in Saratoga, CA.  I hope you enjoy this small set.  Special thanks to CJ for hanging with Christina and I for the afternoon.  Anyways, I need to pack my gear up and get some rest for a full day tomorrow.  I hope you all have a awesome weekend.

    Cheers,
    Steve

  • i like the first of both sets man. second of the second set looks like too much smoothing for my tastes. either way though, great shots man

  • wow. very nice

  •  i like #2 the best because the head position is the most natural looking, her eyes are looking away as though she’s waiting for someone, the lighting is flattering to her cheekbones, and one eye is partially hidden behind her hair – great stuf!

  • All of them are awesome but I think I like the 3rd one best. I like the composition (how the lines lead to her) and the slightly brighter colors. Great set overall!!

  • man i love those first 3 shots too. but my favorite would probably be either the 1st or 3rd one. the pp on the first is more conservative than the 3rd probably b/c there’s more color to the 3rd shot. I like the 3rd shot bc the variety of the colors. =) Can’t go wrong with them though. good job bro

  • actually, i change my vote to the second one. now that i look at it, her tilted head kind of looks like it’s detached from her body because of the way her shoulders are angled. if there’s any way you could expand the right side of the second shot to show a little more of the tiles, and bring her closer to the left side of the frame, i think it’d be perfect. again though, great shots man.

oh hey, you gonna be busy at all between the 15th and the 17th?

  • i actually like the last one best. Of the 3:
#2 her head gets a bit lost with the shadows
So #3 i like best. Do you think it’s too centered? Is there too much background on the left? I still pick #3!

  • @chrispycrunch - shadows are the intention to create drama and emphasize the face and body contour.  i actually think its not centered at all.  the frame would look slightly incomplete i feel if it was further to the left.  like the first image i wouldnt go any further to the left than that cuz then it just looks badly cropped.  background gives more to the mood of the images.  the idea isnt for a headshots so background was ok but perhaps a narrow depth of field could of made it better.  thanks for the comment.

  • i like #2 because of the lighting on her face. it brings out her cheekbones…amateur make-up artist = loves cheekbones!

  • well the first girl image is very hopeful. she shows hope. the second one is darker. she’s thinking something a bit darker than hope.

    i like the second one.

  • It took me a while because I like all three but I think I’ll go with #2! She looks the most natural in this one, the shadows create a darker mood which I love and I like how her face is partly obscured by her hair.  I think your crop/angle is strongest here too.  Great set again dude, I love your work!

  • The second photo is my favorite.  It has an element of mystery (like how girls are!).  But seriously it has nice effects and the sweeping hair over her right eye…excellent!  :)

  • going to go against the flow here and say I like the first one best.  the straightforward, upward glance and the asymmetry are what appeal to me.  the angle of her head in the second one draws attention downwards.  it looks like she is looking into shadow, and thus darkens the mood of the photo a bit too much for my taste. somehow, the third one seems imbalanced–not in composition so much as in the angle, and the sideways turn of her eyes.  it makes for a dizzying effect that is not quite pleasant.

  • in the first series, i like the 2nd picture the best. her pose and the lighting on her face makes it work better. the second series is great, but especially the last image!

  • Steve:

These are all very dramatic and well shot. The lighting and coloring is very moody and cool, her expression’s however (looking up, looking away, pouty lips) are dull and dont say a thing. When creating images such as these you need to inspire your subject. You’re the director, think about what you want your subject to be thinking about in your photography and you should see a difference in their expression. The EYES are the soul of a person, by having some direction from the photographer the model or clients whole body launguage will change. Try this out next time, I know you will see what I mean. Other than those few ideas I can share with you, your photographic works and skills are tremendous!

  • 3rd. just look at the shadows of #1 and #2 on her face! #3 is a more natural pose.

  • I like pose #1however I like color from #3. #1 if you notice because of her black hair it looks like her head is not connected to her body.I like her facial expressions best in the photos after #1, #2, and #3.

  • thanks everyone for your input and critique.  I value everyones thought and enjoy hearing what you see in a photograph and why.  =) you all rock i still don’t know which one i like…i like them all for different reasons haha

  • These are awesome!! I love #3 and actually the last image. I can see your really starting to get it – how to bring out a person’s beauty through solid portraiture techniques and blending it with your own unique style!! Really proud to see where you’re going. NEED TO QUIT YOU DAY JOB!!!!

  • i like the first one because of the way  she’s looking up, but it’s really hard.

i love the second to last picture, the close up.  so beautiful
