It is very difficult for me to try and convey in words how my visit to Seville, Spain changed my life.  Its been nearly a month since I was last in Spain and since then it has been nothing less than AMAZING.  To put it simply…I came back a different person.  A changed man, a man with perspective I had not realized.  A greater sense of purpose and what God wants me to be doing in life.  From a photographers perspective I have so much great respect for the art than I ever had so far in my career.  I’m not the same person I was before Spain.  Can a week 7 or 8 thousand miles away change someones life?  YES IT CAN and it has for many people who have embarked on life’s journey with Scott Robert Photography World Tour Workshops.  Having been to other international and various other workshops Spain has been the most pivotal of all the workshops I’ve been to in the development of my art, craft and pursuit of the extra ordinary life.  It’s not to say the other workshops weren’t amazing because those were all very phenominal too and have helped better shape me as a photographer/artist.  Scott pours so much into you its nearly impossible to absorb it all at once but he is definitely there to keep pushing you to succeed and perfect your craft.  His passion for people, photography and ministering to people to live an extra ordinary life has blessed my life in more ways than I could possible put into words.  I’m very grateful and priviledge to be able to learn and be mentored by one of the worlds renoun photographers/arist.  I have him to thanks for so much in my life.  In fact, I almost didn’t make it to Spain and I knew I would regret it if I didn’t go and he was there to affirm me that I needed to go.  I look back to that week of my life and think to myself how on earth did I ever even think of not going.  I wouldn’t trade those sweet moments in life for anything.  Everything from being in Spain to meeting amazing people from different places, learning new tools and techniques to perfect the craft of portraiture.  If I knew what would of transpired and had not gone I could honestly say it would be one if not the one major regret I would have in my life.  God had a way of providing for me and giving me more direction from that day up until now and so on.  Things have never seems so clear for me in my entire life.  I know this to be true in my heart and it feels right.  For the first time so much has changed me I feel like I’m actually beginning to live my life.  I’ve always looked at life as a grand story.  The only difference is the story you choose to live out.  You partly create it by decisions you make in life or whatever life measures come your way that mold you to the way you are today.  I ask myself this question nearly everyday…if someone were to write a book about you life, would anyone want to read it?  Really, would anyone want to read it?  Now interestingly life choices and paths we choose all have different scenarios, things that happen and experiences that shape us to become hopefully better people.  My whole life I’ve always knew I wanted to do great things in life, things that were different or extra ordinary but I never knew how I would do it or if it would ever happen.  How does these things happen?  Well certainly not on their own.  I think as people many of us don’t dream enough.  Dreams are often distant thoughts that never become a reality for whatever reason each person may have.  I believe in dreaming.  Whatever happen to our dreams?  Do you recall when you were once a child and what dreams you had or things you aspired to become or do in life?  You know a child is rather simple.  Their thoughts are no where near our thoughts of rationalization, measuring and weighing out things in life.  A child sees things for what they are.  They see, say and possible just do it.  I think for many people its not a matter of circumstances but rather a battle of yourself.  I think most people are simply afraid.  It’s not that people don’t know better or haven’t not heard such things before.  I think fear gets the best of us or perhaps its comfortablity?  We don’t want to take the narrower path because it seems difficult, rough and uncertain.  But isn’t that the life Jesus calls us to?  His life was most certainly extra ordinary and to this very day it still is and it stands .  Jesus lived an extra ordinary life that simply no man anyone could ever measure up to.  But Jesus inspires.  He invites us to join Him in faith but most of the time were scared to.  I belive strongly that LIFE is a gift from God.  Life isn’t just waking up each day to just exist.  We exist all for a purpose and its our job to seek our purpose in God’s plan for our lives.

Anyways, special thanks to Scott Robert.  I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for his dedication to his passions in life and his mentorship.  I want to bring value to his life but He gives so much I feel like I am in life major debt hahaha.  In any case I have been so blessed and if you are someone reading this and are thinking about a SR World Tour Workshop in 2009.  Trust me, you wont want to miss it.  2009 is going to be super fantastic.  In a weakening economy I trust in God to always provide and you know what…He always comes through.  This is my life.  This is who I am.  Artist/Photographer.  My passion has always been for people and to be in a career that involes sharing lives with people is what life is really all about.  Life is is meant to be shared and experienced with people all to bring glory to the One who created all things. Thank you God for blessing my life so much when in fact I don’t deserve such gifts of life.  Scott, thanks for helping me to see in a brand new way.  Uterally thankful for all my fans, subscribers, family, firends and clients who all support and encourage me to live my dreams.  Cheers to the extra-ordinary life.  Life is meant to be shared and I can’t wait to share more of this life with everyone and YOU =)

    Cheers,
    Stephen

  • Stephen,

Wow brother.  Between your photos and what God has placed on you heart during that trip, it’s amazing.  Praise God for what he is doing in you and through you.  I have heard such great things about Spain (between my niece who studied over there and othe friends who continue to rave abou it).  It seems like the architecture is amazing there.  Some great photos.  I’m going to tell one of my xanga friends about your photos. She’ll love it.  It’s great to still see you blogging brother.  God continue to keep and guide ya.

  • @vangelicmonk - Is that person me? Thank you for recommending this post… The photos are absolutely breath-taking, especially the flamenco pictures.

To saphoto – I know *precisely* how you feel. Spain did the same thing for me, and I am aching, am yearning, to return to that country. I visited Sevilla, and I loved it so much. Sigh. I am reminded of those times now.

  • Steve…Thank you!!  It is about time you posted this.  =P  You have alluded to all the things going on in your life but just post little cryptic messages.  Doh!   Well after seeing your amazing images and reading what God has revealed to you, I must say that it was all worth the wait.  I will pray that God continues you along on this journey he has placed you on.  He has definitely touched you with a gift and as Scott mentions I believe he will use that gift to inspire others around you.

I wish that I could have been in Spain with you all but I agree that if someone has a chance to study with Scott they should jump at the opportunity.  It is amazing how he just spurs people on to do greater things than they expect.  Maybe because he sees things in us that we don’t see in ourselves.  I know I am doing more than I ever thought I would.  Well stay on that path, I don’t know if it will ever get any wider but I am sure it will become richer in meaning and fulfillment.

  • WOW! Breath-taking…amazing…. beautiful… artistic…!!!!!!! MOUTH AGAPED whole time i was watching the slides…..

I remembered reading one of Scott’s recent entry re: Sevilla’s workshop…and how he wrote that most of his students have greater talent than him etc…. Now I know who he’s talking about :) ))

Thank YOU very much for sharing…. you love and passion, hardwork and hunger for fulfilling life’s aspirations and passion in art/photography shine through those images…those shots. Even in the short time of subscribing to you, I can see how MUCH more amazingness radiated from one slide post to another… hee hee.

Good luck for everything! May we all survive the recession period (^^)

  • Breathtaking Steve!! I was totally emersed and captivated watching your stunning slideshow! You had everything in there, it was like watching a movie, I was tempted to bust out the popcorn, lol! And then I read your words, WOW! I’m FEELING you on everything you said bro, and I’m so glad you made it to Spain it was a special one for all of us but for you exactly what you needed at exactly the right time in your life!  You are truly gifted and I look forward to reading that book they write about you, oh, and that love story too! Hahaha….see you in December!!!

  • Yo Steve, brilliant imagery!  I’m so glad that the trip had such a metmorphosis on your outlook on life – it really was that great, wasn’t it?  Best to you in ’09!

  • Well Steve, you finally turned the corner and hats off to you my friend. Not many people do it, and you are right, it all boils down to self confidence and seeing that God has an ultimate, most amazing life for you. WE choose the life we want. Thanks for not settling and being a great influence to others and for taking a big risk. I would, in jest, call you a “big wimp” about every other sentence when speaking to you but I can’t now because you really see it- the power of taking things into your own hands and opting for the extraordinary life, EL as we say it. When it is all said and done, we are going to look back and be amazed to see what God has done through all of us. Again, thanks so much for the super duper kind words about what we do as SR workshops. Most people will never understand until they go on one with us but I appreciate your sincere and thoughtful words. May God continue to bless you and give you confidence to live your dreams because many are waiting to be inspired!
