There is simply nothing like doing photography at the Big Apple. That’s exactly what we all did. Funky, fresh, fun, inspiring all with twists of exciting randomness! =) Last week I was in NYC for Scott Robert’s photography workshop and boy did we have a ton of fun. I think we pretty much photographed most of our days from late morning till pretty much midnight and beyond. Tired, exhausted would occasionally remind us in our physical state but when you put a bunch of inspirational photographers together under the wing of Scott Robert…tiredness doesn’t stand a chance. If you are new to photography or a serious about taking your career to the NEXT LEVEL to create rave about your work attend one of this workshops this year if not next year. You will learn so much you might not even be able to take it all in at once. =) You will learn fundamentals that will enrich your skill set as a photographer. What could be better than traveling to great places, taking pictures and having one hell of a time all at the same time? If you thought too long then you owe it to yourself to check out one of Scott’s workshops and see for yourself.
Without further ado here are crap load of photos I wanted to share from the workshop! =) Inspiration, creativity is contagious people…when you lash on to it go with it. Sometimes if not most of the time it doesn’t make sense but sometimes the results can blow you away =) I only have a handful of photos from so many locations but wait till you see the rest of the folks photos too =). I’ll be back to NYC soon again folks!
Anyways, hope you’re all have a fabulous weekend. My sister is graduating from college tomorrow so I am so excited and proud of her! She’s going to become an amazing fashion designer one day and shes going to hire me to do all the fashion shoots
We’re going to take over the world muahahhaah. In the mean time, well enjoy this moment and make sure you get yo daddy a nice father’s day card and tell him how much you appreciate and love him. =) Chao!
Thanks for tunning in.

Misc. Blurps:
So recently I bought a Tokina 100mm F/2.8 for some macro fun only to find it doesn’t have AF. You’d figure I’d know that before I bought it but in this case, nope. Well anyways, I’m returning it for another lens =)
Today gas for $4.78/gal for me. I have to fill up premium. Where is our economy going? I think a lot of Americans need to get our heads out of our bottoms and start being a part of the solution rather than the problem. Gas and fossil fuel is ancient. Lets face it, its dinosaur fuel and we’ve been depended on it since the industrial revolution. Technological progress in over 200 years and still on gasoline and oil…not very impressive technological growth you’d say? We need to start looking at alternative fuel sources to supply energy as we are doing now because out well being economically is at stake. Oil is the the heart of this nations economic power. It fuels everything from out homes, transportation, industries, factories you name it. It’s really simple when you look at it. It’s simply the law of supply and demand. Supply is cut back while demand (being us) need it. Same thing goes for the whole uproar in spiked prices for rice. Supply is cut off on exporting rice thus prices go up while demand remains the same if not more. The government spends billions on research and development for alternative fuel sources while a joe shomoe figures it out in the garage. It’ll happen folks haha, it has in the past. So I guess my question is what will it take American’s to really alter their life styles? When gas is $7 a gallon? For me honestly, right now buying a more fuel efficient car isn’t a wise economic choice because I wont really be saving much in the long run. Yes gas is reasonably higher but how high does it have to go before we and the automotive industry start moving forward. The balls in their court and honestly I doubt and don’t think its necessary for the government to step into the oil industry to regulate fuel cost. Shoot if I had the solution I’d shove oil right up Iraq’s caboose and say adios to oil and gasoline baby! I have no problems with that. Since I don’t have the solution that’s not going to happen but I’d like to be a part of it. Maybe you have the answers were all looking for. For once we are feeling the pinch the rest of the world has felt on fuel cost. We bite our tongue today on the matter but in the next year or so you might not have a tongue anymore the way oil prices are going haha.
I went to buy groceries the other day and noticed after paying for groceries, going home preparing dinner, eating and then cleaning up. Cooking is still not cost efficient for me in terms of money and time. Since time is something I simply don’t have enough of I find my willingness to pay for prepared food more likely than having to spend the same amount of money if not more and then taking the time to prepare the meal and clean up after it. I got home from work the other day at 5:45pm and finished cooking, eating and cleaning by 8:30. Now if I was cooking guest or other people then cooking might be the cheaper route! =) The great part is summer is here now and I love to BBQ. Who wants to do BBQs? Count me in! =) Hope you are all having a great week.
Thanks for reading.
Cheers,
Steve

While we were there I managed to do some photographs of my beautiful sister and my awesome parents. My favorite part of the whole trip was probably Santa Monica near 3rd Promenade. My father is a huge fan of botany and the whole botanical experience so we ventured to Huntington Library. Anyways, I have much to catch up on and will update you soon with a load of photos from past shoots I have just not got around to posting yet. Hope you are all well.

David + Maxine | Engagement Session

David’s lunch…product photography? yes yes… =)

Cilantro rice is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

Huevos con patillos y carne asada! =)

Maxine’s lunch! =) yummy!!!!!!!!!

Hey…there’s that frame again =)
Meet David & Maxine! David is a web/graphic designer, musician, husband to be, a great friend with a awesome sense of humor! Maxine is the chillest, down to earth all around fun girl (David you gots a keeper baby). =) She also just finished her masters in social work (correct me if I’m mistaken Maxine). Anyways, I can’t wait till their wedding day which is in less than 2 months! Now to the photographs. We spend most or all of the session in two locations…well mainly one. We had lunch at Zocalo’s in down town Sacramento and I highly recommend this place. Awesome food, great atmosphere especially if you are looking for a chill place to hang out with friends on a late Friday or Saturday night. It’s definitely trendy but their food brings you back! I did a few shots there but most of the photos were all taken indoors at the Sacramento Train Museum! Pretty neat places I must say. I don’t remember much of it because I think the last time I was there was when I was about five years old haha. The shoot was relatively short but we did manage to walk around old town Sac a small bit to the Salt Water Taffy store. That place has so much taffy its not even funny. Back to Maxine & David…both work with the youth group at a local church here in Sacramento and I must say God couldn’t of chosen any couple better to be around these kids because as much as they are adults they are very much big kids themselves. I’m not much of an adult myself hahaha…if fact for those who know me, know I still act like a kid haha. I mentioned earlier David is a web/graphic designer and might I say a freakin amazing one!!!!! You got to check him out. He’s going to be designing my a new website for me in the near future and a custom blog (dont worry I’m xanga for life) =)
Check David out at

If you need a web/graphic designer…I highly highly recommend him. He has contracted, Sony, Biola University, Capcom and non profit organizations….you name it…he’s done it. He’s an amazing person to work with and so are his associates!
I hope you all enjoy this set. Have a splendid weekend. I’m off to Oakland and NYC next week woohoo!
Thanks for tunning in

Greg & Wendy | Engagement Shoot

Got this idea from Scott Robert

We had a lot of fun with this frame =)

I don’t know if I like this shot…or….

Elevator and I don’t mean Timberland

Couldn’t resist taking sun beans through the clouds! =)
I know this post has a lot of pictures mainly because I couldn’t decide which ones I liked the most so I just posted all of them hahaha. Anyways, I did a engagement shoot a few weeks back for Greg and Wendy and boy did we have a blast. Greg and Wendy are such a awesome couple who love Christ, have a passion for people and life. It shows through their relationship with each other and people they meet. I can’t wait till their wedding day…we’re going to have so much fun! =) Thanks again for a awesome time and I hope you all enjoy this set! =) Stay tuned for more photos from another engagement and other shoots I’ve been on!
Random Blurps:
So gas prices are literally costing American’s a arm and a leg. I filled up Monday last week at $4.22/gal and by Friday that week it was $4.37. A 15 cent increase in less than one week is just crazy its like hyper inflation. Today I filled up at $4.45/gal at my local Chevron. Diesel is already over $5 bucks and before you know it so will gasoline.
Hybrid cars are among popular demand but do they really save you money in the long run? I’ve read articles say it doesn’t but who knows? Environmentally friendly? Sure! Resale value on those cars are probably top dollar especially if you own a Prius. Does anyone know the cost of replacing a hybrid battery? Supposedly they are pretty expensive.
McCain or Obama? Whose its going to be? If you want my honest opinion about the whole campaign…I don’t like any of the candidates! =) I’ll leave it at that, politics can get messy and if you want to talk politics…please join me for coffee Id love to hear what you have to say! =)
Food prices remain on the rise but I’ve found that businesses like Trader Joe’s have stable prices vs. Major chain grocery stores. Most people tend to think places like that or Co Ops are more expensive and they can be but you can definitely get a few good buys.
Mom & Pop vs. Franchise Restaurants…nothing beats Mom and Pop places for some good old home cooking for any cuisne…American, Asian, Mexican, Mediterranean…you name it. Most of the time I find myself at more privately owned places to eat. When a restaurant is just itself there is a uniqueness about each places verses Applebee’s which by the way is on the downhill corporately since way back but companies like Apple Bee’s I believe have a good recipe. It’s not that the market for is bad but simply bad management, bad employee’s and companies taking short cuts to meet the demand of people. In a sense demand goes up is good but for companies like Apple Bee’s it lead to microwave food, poor service and quality that just seems to diminish. I still remember the first time the restaurant opened back in the early 90′s and it was a awesome place. Nice feel and atmosphere that invites people of all ages. Companies like In & Out Burger for example is a great company with a great product. Simple is how they keep it and its worked well for them. If I’m not mistaken they are NOT franchise but still family owned. What’s In and Out’s secret? Well for one thing they are consistent, customer service is excellent most of the time and most of the time foods are always created fresh and right on the spot. You’d think places like Apple Bee’s would make you food on the spot when you order but truth of the matter is their foods are either frozen, prepackaged, sitting under heat lamps and reheated in the microwave. How do I know, well ask my friend who used to work there hahaha.
Ok…I’ve rambled enough! Until next time…
Cheers,
Steve

Crazy DOF
Canon 50mm f/1.2 is a freaking sweet lens but the DOF is pretty crazy. You can see it in the photo of my aunts chawawa. At 1.2 though you definitely got to be careful when taking portraits for sure. The DOF is so narrow on this you could prob just focus on a person’s eye haha. Definitely great in low lighting situations. In AF mode when shooting against light or the sun its definitely struggles to focus. Never the less its awesome optically. I say its worth every pretty penny! =)
I’m finding it difficult to find time to blog now a days. I still enjoy it as always but with the million and one things I am juggling it almost seems to end up on the back burner some days =(. Thanks everyone for always tuning in to my blog here. I know I have really slacked on replying and I’m going to be better at that. Blog can be a full time job sometimes =) and for some people thats how they make a living so I hear? hahah Anyways, I’ll have some more photos from a few shoots I have been on and a couple engagments. I’ll be in LA this weekend so hit me up if you want to hang! =) Until next time I will check you all later. Have a superb weekend! =)
Anyone know a good third party wide angle zoom lens for a Canon 5D. I have planned on a 16-35mm. Or if you want to sell me yours hehe. That indeed is a great lens but I’ve been curious about some of the other third party lens that are significantly cheaper and was thinking about comparing optical abilities compared to the Canon. The only third party lens I have ever owned has been the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. That lens is freaking amazing for the price. Optically its sharp, fast and built very well. I’m going to try a Tokina lens next and will let you all know how that works out! =) Well see how if some of these can stand up to the “L” quality optically…I have doubts about third party lens being built as well as the “L” series from Canon. But we all know it comes down to image quality. Id say built quality would come second for me. Anyways, just my two cents. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts! =) Comments welcomed.
